Happy New Year 2017! It is hard to believe we are already a month into the New Year!
Our new year began with an exciting change to our meeting structure. The meeting agenda was designed to have a specific focus. The focus, and the theme of the meeting, was centered on the “Life of a Patient Account”.
The Winter Seminar, held at the Par-A-Dice in East Peoria, had a phenomenal turnout! Our presenter topics covered Patient Access, Population Health, MACRA, Effective Denials Management, and included an AHA update from Dr. Kim Byas, Sr. The comments on the seminar survey and through talking with members, indicated the change to the meeting structure were a welcome change.
In addition, to the seminar format changes, the sponsor and meeting registration tables were strategically placed to aid attendees in getting in and out of the event. Speaking with our sponsors was also seamless. Thank you to all of our sponsors for everything you do to make our meetings possible and to the seminar attendees who visited to vendors. Please take a few minutes to look at the pictures on the HFMA McMahon-Illini chapter website and in this newsletter.
Our upcoming educational events include the Payer Panel and the Student Career Development session both on February 15, 2017. The payer panel discussion is sure to be one of the best yet. Our Program Committee has confirmed Illinois Medicaid, WPS Medicare, Blue Cross of Illinois, Cigna Healthcare, Health Alliance, Untied Healthcare, Aetna/Coventry and Experian Health to be part of this year’s payer panel discussion. This payer panel is by far the greatest payer commitment the McMahon-Illini chapter has been able to secure! Be sure to have your questions ready!
Plan on staying in town directly after the payer panel because our 2nd Student Career Development night at Bradley University begins at 5:00 p.m. Students and HFMA members will appreciate the informative panel discussion regarding skill development and strategies necessary to map a successful career path in the field of healthcare management and finance. Attendees will learn from successful peers in healthcare financial management how to take their career to the next level. Our panel for this discussion includes Michelle Carrothers, Senior VP of Strategic Reimbursement at OSF Healthcare System; Travis Dowell, Vice President, Physician Services at Memorial Health System; Mike Meunier, CCO at Gibson City Hospital; Roy Pyers, Health Network Consultant at BCBS of IL; Joe Abel, Director, Career Strategies at HFMA National; and Gary Tupper, Patient Care Manager, Emergency Department at OSF Healthcare System. The panelist will be moderated by Dr. Larry Weinzimmer the Caterpillar Inc. Professor of Strategic Management at Bradley University. What a GREAT networking opportunity for students and all HFMA members.
On April 27, 2017, we will sponsor our first ever Women’s focused spring event. This event is open to all HFMA members and anyone else that would benefit from hearing this motivational information. This educational event will open with an engaging speaker who will discuss “Being an Empowering and Dynamic Female Leader in a Man’s World”. Also joining us will be Sonya Jones who was a contestant on the TV show the Biggest loser. We are still in the planning process of this event but we are sure it will please all who attend! We truly hope to see you at this first McMahon-Illini Women’s focus Spring educational event.
As the year goes along, we are always looking for new ideas, so please reach out to me or one of our board members to share your ideas or even join one of our great committees. See you all on February 15, 2017 at the Payer Panel and the Student event!!
Stay warm and healthy.
